For all children and those who remain children at heart

A letter to you

BY S.B. MONDE

While I was writing this book, I’d sometimes meet grown-ups and tell them I was writing a children’s novel. All of them would smile when I told them about it. It was not always a warm smile that signified support and approval. Some were truly delighted. When I mentioned it would be a children’s book, their eyes lit up and sparked with childlike happiness. However, I must admit there were few of those. Most grown-ups would just smile gently. To them it seemed a mere triviality. Something insignificant and naïve. Some laughed out loudly as if that was the most foolish thing they’d heard that day. Either way, there’s no doubt it increased the number of smiles in the world. I therefore thank them for helping our heroes succeed in their noble mission. I hope they come to realise, if they haven’t already, that being a child is serious business.

I beg you, in all seriousness, let them know this!

About the author

Sofia Bella Monde has always lived in that enchanted kingdom of imagination. She wanted to be a daring astronaut, a graceful ballerina, a classy fashion designer, a famous actress, a fearless musketeer and a brilliant physicist. And she has indeed become everything she ever dreamed of because one morning, while she was gazing at the endless open sea, or majestic fir trees covered in snow, or fragrant meadows full of flowers, she decided to become an author. A children’s author. From that day on, wherever she is and whatever she does, letters of all shapes and colours float before her eyes, like the most beautiful butterflies, following her to the magical garden of stories.
